Prevent BURNOUT: Simplify Your Life

“Burnout is nature’s way of telling you, you’ve been going through the motions your soul has departed; you’re a zombie, a member of the walking dead, a sleepwalker. False optimism is like administrating stimulants to an exhausted nervous system.”
― Sam Keen

Prevent BURNOUT by Simplifying Your Life

The Top Ways You Can Start Taking Charge Of Your Day and Prevent BURNOUT!

With schedules becoming ever busier, adding into careers and family, the merry-go-round never seems to stop.

You cannot remember a time that you had a chance to relax as there are always chores to do at home.

Instead of focusing on the chore itself, focus on the mental relief you will feel once it is done and prevent burnout.

In fact, a recent study conducted by the Society for the Psychology of Women focused on the mental effects one experiences after a chore is complete.

“…chores lead to increased competence with necessary life skills, increase in instilling values to children, and even general well-being.”

Let us look at five proven methods that you can do today to begin simplifying your life:

prevent burnout

  •  Clean one room per day – Nothing can feel as overwhelming as a dirty home. Dishes piled high and laundry waiting to be washed. After a long day, these chores seem daunting.

The first thing you need is motivation to prevent burnout.

Instead of looking at the entire messy house, break it down to rooms.

Prioritize them. The kitchen and living room are often the most used areas.

Tackle the kitchen on Monday and spruce up the living room on Tuesday.

Use the rest of the week to clean up the bedrooms and bathroom.

Start a load of laundry before going to bed. When you get up, toss it into the dryer on your way out.

prevent burnout

  • Start limiting options –This can be especially useful when it comes to meals. When trying to maintain a household with spouses and children, the task of cooking can be mentally and physically exhausting.

Once a week, sit down with your family and make a weekly menu.

Instead of offering multiple choices on how to cook your tacos, offer everyone two recipes.

Let them decide on the final one. Keep doing this for the week.

By allowing the children to participate in the decision-making, it relieves you of the extra stress of making the final call.

Once a week, allow yourself a free day of cooking. This could be a night out or a pizza delivered.

time out

  • Give yourself a time out – With so many things on our daily agendas, it is often said that there is not enough time in the day to do everything. In fact, a study conducted by Gallup.com reported, “About 6 in 10 working Americans (61%) say they do not have enough time to do what they want, compared with 32% of those who are not working.”

This can be as simple as taking your favorite crossword book on the back patio for 20 minutes.

If you are looking for more activity, put on your earphones with your favorite music and take a short walk around your neighborhood.

put phone down

  • Time to put down the phones – With today’s technology, phones offer us entire links to the rest of the world. You can order your coffee online and call your friend in Europe at the same time.

Yet, multiple researchers have shown that texting is the most used feature as opposed to calling.

Texting has become the modern style of relationships.

According to TextMagic.com, “U.S. smartphone users send and receive five times more texts than they make and receive calls. On average, Americans spend 26 minutes per day texting compared to 21 minutes per day calling.”

A simple way to adjust to this is at night.

Instead of crawling into bed and catching up on all your messages or watching YouTube videos, try plugging the phone in on the other side of the room.

Flip the phone over, so the light does not distract your sleep.

Instead, cuddle up to that novel you have been wanting to catch up on.

Before you know it, you will be off to a night of restless sleep.

Those messages will still be there tomorrow, and this will help to prevent burnout!

prep lunch

  • Prep the night before – By completing small but time-consuming tasks the night before, it will ease up your schedule in the morning time. Lay out clothes for yourself, and have your children do the same if they can. Limit choices again. Keep your bags and coats by the door for a simple exit.

When it comes to packing lunches, put everything they need in a bag with their name in the refrigerator the night before.

Bag any snacks and fresh produce in individual baggies for a quick bite after school or work.

In Conclusion

Life may be busy but simplifying the things that are in your CONTROL can bring mental well-being and prevent burnout.

Start with what you can today and take on the world tomorrow.

As famed artist Hans Hofmann once quoted, “The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak. “

It Starts With YOU!

Its like you read my thoughts! You seem to grasp a lot about this, like you wrote the guide in it or something. I believe that you simply can do with some percent to pressure the message home a bit, however other than that, this is great blog. An excellent read. I will definitely be back.
