Self-Sabotage Is Rooted In Low Self-Esteem
Sometimes we do things that we know are bad for us. It is self-sabotage!!
Oftentimes we do these things because we don’t know that they are bad for us.
And other times we know that they are bad for us, but we enjoy them, so we only do them occasionally.
There are times, however, when we do things that are bad for us because they are bad for us.
This is often called self-sabotage.
Why would anyone knowingly do something that is bad for them? Often, their motives are rooted in low self-esteem. This is a relationship worth exploring.
Health Standards and Self-Esteem
When people have low self-esteem, they see themselves as not valuable or even detrimental to their environments.
Because much of how we see ourselves is based on how we interact with those around us and people who don’t see themselves as valuable to others may not value themselves.
As a result, they may not see their health as worth maintaining.
While some people in this regrettable situation may attempt to kill themselves, others simply allow themselves to spiral into self-sabotage by engaging in unhealthy activities like smoking or heavy drinking.
If you are in this position, consider finding ways to give your life more meaning by finding a more meaningful job, finding ways to volunteer, or reaching out to family members and friends.
We can also try to make the world a better place by representing our condition. Educating others through activities like blogging. There are other people like you, and you can help them and yourselves to feel better.
We all know someone in this position, let them know that they are valued.
Let them know that all people have value, even those who have made mistakes.
Societal Expectations and Self-Esteem
Those with high self-esteem tend to define themselves on their own terms.
Some that have low self-esteem are more inclined to let other people define them.
Without an intense sense of value, they may start to see themselves in the light of the stereotypes that other people apply to them. Many of these stereotypes revolve around unhealthy behaviors.
There are some in a social or ethnic minority who may be more likely to do drugs because they feel that that is what is expected of them. Someone in a low-income job may drink more because that is how they feel that people in their position are expected to act.
If you are in this position, you may be able to rise above it by reminding yourself that these patterns are perpetuated by unfortunate stereotypes. And they are also perpetuated by people living up to them.
Other people see you with their own pre-conceived biases, but by rising above those biases you can help yourself and everyone in your situation by showing others that you can be better than their expectations.
If you know someone in this situation, try to communicate them that they can escape the vicious cycle of satisfying other’s expectations by rising above those expectations and representing a better view.
Rising Above Low Self-Esteem
Self-sabotage is rooted in low self-esteem and in many cases self-sabotage results in low self-esteem.
This poses an obstacle to victims of bullying, harassment, or emotional abuse.
It poses an obstacle to people of various ethnic, social, or economic backgrounds. It contributes to the difficulty that all these people face in achieving health and success.
While it is unfortunate, it can be overcome through education, support, and dedication!!
Anyone who works to improve themselves despite their low self-esteem can improve their health and improve their self-esteem for their own good.
However, more than that, we can help other people from the same background help themselves as well.
It Starts With YOU!
